There is some sobering new data from a study in the Journal of Diabetes Complications. The initial severity of a diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a significant predictor for patient mortality, making DFU severity more of a warning sign for death than peripheral arterial disease, coronary artery disease or stroke.1
